چکیده

Many ensemble methods, such as Bagging, Boosting, Random Forest, etc, have been proposed and widely used in real world applications. Some of them are better than others on noisefree data while some of them are better than others on noisy data. But in reality, ensemble methods that can consistently gain good performance in situations with or without noise are more desirable. In this paper, we propose a new method namely MTForest, to ensemble decision tree learning algorihms by enumerating each input attribute as extra task to introduce different additional inductive bias to generate diverse yet accurate component decision tree learning algorithms in the ensemble. The experimental results show that in situations without classification noise, MTForest is comparable to Boosting and Random Forest and significantly better than Bagging, while in situations with classification noise, MTForest is significantly better than Boosting and Random Forest and is slightly better than Bagging. So MTForest is a good choice for ensemble decision tree learning algorithms in situations with or without noise. We conduct the experiments on the basis of 36 widely used UCI data sets that cover a wide range of domains and data characteristics and run all the algorithms within the Weka platform.

Modern studies in the field of environment science and engineering show that deterministic models struggle to capture the relationship between the concentration of atmospheric pollutants and their emission sources. The recent advances in statistical modeling based on machine learning approaches have emerged as solution to tackle these issues. It is a fact that, input variable type largely affec...

Tree-Based Ensemble Multi-Task Learning Method for Classification and Regression

Multi-task learning is an important area of machine learning that tries to learn multiple tasks simultaneously to improve the accuracy of each individual task. We propose a new tree-based ensemble multi-task learning method for classification and regression (MT-ExtraTrees), based on Extremely Randomized Trees. MTExtraTrees is able to share data between tasks minimizing negative transfer while k...

Multi-View Forest: A New Ensemble Method based on Dempster-Shafer Evidence Theory

This paper proposes a new ensemble method that constructs an ensemble of tree-structured classifiers using multi-view learning. We are motivated by the fact that an ensemble can outperform its members providing that these classifiers are diverse and accurate. In order to construct diverse individual classifiers, we assume that the object to be classified is described by multiple feature sets (v...

Ensembles of Extremely Randomized Trees for Multi-target Regression

In this work, we address the task of learning ensembles of predictive models for predicting multiple continuous variables, i.e., multitarget regression (MTR). In contrast to standard regression, where the output is a single scalar value, in MTR the output is a data structure – a tuple/vector of continuous variables. The task of MTR is recently gaining increasing interest by the research communi...

Enhancing Multi-Class Classification of Random Forest using Random Vector Functional Neural Network and Oblique Decision Surfaces

Both neural networks and decision trees are popular machine learning methods and are widely used to solve problems from diverse domains. These two classifiers are commonly used base classifiers in an ensemble framework. In this paper, we first present a new variant of oblique decision tree based on a linear classifier, then construct an ensemble classifier based on the fusion of a fast neural n...
